How to get to Lopes Mendes Beach

Lopes Mendes beach is reputed to be one of the most beautiful in Brazil. It is almost 3 km long, is completely uninhabited and well preserved. A paradise that manages to stand out among so many other beauties of Ilha Grande.

Introduction

We have a saying in our Pousada “if you don’t know what to do today, go to Lopes Mendes.”
Why? Because it is an iconic destination of the island, famous in Brazil and recognized all over the world, and is, without a doubt, one of the best plans for a whole day of your vacation. It is also an economic plan and suitable for all kinds of claims in a unique place.

Located at the southern coast of Ilha Grande, Praia de Lopes Mendes receives an attractive swell for some surfers and make Lopes the favorite to practice this sport on the island. Despite the waves, the beach is shallow, long and the quality of the water is excellent, optimal to bathe and swim in its vast sea. Its 2.7 km of extension draw a new landscape from time to time, and its fine and clear sand generates a unique sound with each step, all so characteristic of this kaleidoscope of postcards.

That said, what are the different ways of reaching Lopes Mendes?

By Schooner Transfer + T11 Trail

Every day boats leave from Vila do Abraão that take visitors to Praia do Pouso, from there it is enough to follow the 1 km trail (T11) to Lopes Mendes. The journey is easy and takes 30 to 40 minutes. The boats (schooner transfers) that take you from Vila do Abraão to Praia do Pouso cost R$50 round trip, and the price may change depending on the high and low season. These boats to Praia do Pouso sail in closed seas, so they are always available. Before leaving the ship, carefully check the departure times to return to Vila do Abraão.


Generally the hours are as follows:
Abraão to Pouso: 9:30am, 10:30am and 11:30am.
Pouso to Abraão 3:30pm and 5:30pm.

In Praia do Pouso there are some options to eat and the beach is quite nice and calm. Note that the trip back to the trail also takes 20-30 minutes. Check the clock so you don’t get behind!

*These boats do not reach Lopes Mendes beach, they only get you to Pouso, it is forbidden to go out to the open sea on these boats.

By Taxi Boat + T11 Trail

Every day there are Taxi Boats available from Vila do Abraão that take visitors to Praia do Pouso, fulfilling the same route and function as the schooners, only faster.
From there, just take the 1 km trail to Lopes Mendes. The round trip cost is R$70 per person.


Generally the hours are as follows:
Abraão to Pouso: 9:00am, 9:30am, 10:00am, 10:30am, 11:00am and 11:30am.
Pouso to Abraão 3:00pm, 4:00pm and 5:00pm.

*Taxi Boats do not go to Lopes Mendes beach, they can only reach Pouso Beach, it is forbidden to go out to the open sea in these boats.

Hiking T10 + T11 Trails

Those who are more willing can take the longest path, starting from Abraão. There is an exit before the start of Praia da Julia where the first route starts at T10 passing until reaching Praia de Palmas, and ends at Pouso Beach. Then, more calmly, continue along T11 until you reach your destination.
The total route is 5.6 km and it takes about 3 hours to complete it. Always go prepared, with at least 2 liters of drinking water, suitable footwear, repellent and some candies in case glucose drops.

*The T10 path from Abraão to Palmas is beautiful, with the forest sheltering us from the sun and opening sporadically to see the sea. If it has rained the previous days you have to be extra careful, it is rough and slippery terrain.
**Palmas beach is very beautiful, it is really worth staying there for a while and recharge your batteries.
***It is recommended not to carry items such as water or cell phones in your hands, since you will need to hold on to branches, roots, and stones to cross certain points.

Super Sul Speedboat Tour

The speedboat ride that makes the Super Sul itinerary passes through Lopes Mendes Beach, but depends on excellent sea conditions to sail. It is common that this tour does not leave in bad weather. Don’t count on him to meet Lopes Mendes.

Private Speedboat Tour

There is also the possibility of hiring a private speedboat to arrive and visit Lopes Mendes beach. The cost will depend on the vessel, the sailor and the other stops you wish to add.
