We have a saying in our Pousada “if you don’t know what to do today, go to Lopes Mendes.”
Why? Because it is an iconic destination of the island, famous in Brazil and recognized all over the world, and is, without a doubt, one of the best plans for a whole day of your vacation. It is also an economic plan and suitable for all kinds of claims in a unique place.
Located at the southern coast of Ilha Grande, Praia de Lopes Mendes receives an attractive swell for some surfers and make Lopes the favorite to practice this sport on the island. Despite the waves, the beach is shallow, long and the quality of the water is excellent, optimal to bathe and swim in its vast sea. Its 2.7 km of extension draw a new landscape from time to time, and its fine and clear sand generates a unique sound with each step, all so characteristic of this kaleidoscope of postcards.
That said, what are the different ways of reaching Lopes Mendes?
By Schooner Transfer + T11 Trail
Every day boats leave from Vila do Abraão that take visitors to Praia do Pouso, from there it is enough to follow the 1 km trail (T11) to Lopes Mendes. The journey is easy and takes 30 to 40 minutes. The boats (schooner transfers) that take you from Vila do Abraão to Praia do Pouso cost R$50 round trip, and the price may change depending on the high and low season. These boats to Praia do Pouso sail in closed seas, so they are always available. Before leaving the ship, carefully check the departure times to return to Vila do Abraão.

By Taxi Boat + T11 Trail
Every day there are Taxi Boats available from Vila do Abraão that take visitors to Praia do Pouso, fulfilling the same route and function as the schooners, only faster.

Hiking T10 + T11 Trails
Those who are more willing can take the longest path, starting from Abraão. There is an exit before the start of Praia da Julia where the first route starts at T10 passing until reaching Praia de Palmas, and ends at Pouso Beach. Then, more calmly, continue along T11 until you reach your destination.
The total route is 5.6 km and it takes about 3 hours to complete it. Always go prepared, with at least 2 liters of drinking water, suitable footwear, repellent and some candies in case glucose drops.
*The T10 path from Abraão to Palmas is beautiful, with the forest sheltering us from the sun and opening sporadically to see the sea. If it has rained the previous days you have to be extra careful, it is rough and slippery terrain.
**Palmas beach is very beautiful, it is really worth staying there for a while and recharge your batteries.
***It is recommended not to carry items such as water or cell phones in your hands, since you will need to hold on to branches, roots, and stones to cross certain points.
